The Green House

Some say that circular economy is the economic model of the future: a system in which we repaint, reuse and recycle as many products and raw materials as possible to minimize their destruction of value. For The Green House in Utrecht, a circular restaurant with its own Urban Farm full of fresh ingredients, we were asked to help visualize the design concept. We started with a series of illustrations to explain to visitors in an informal and playful way about their urban farm where they grow fresh herbs, use a 'plugless' kitchen, explain to them what is done with their leftover vegetables, and to make them aware to make sure that the choice they make, the guests, makes all the difference in making the world a better place. These narrative illustrations were used to create a background on the ground floor of the restaurant and translate it into a stationery that we printed on beautiful seed paper so that you can plant it after use and put a pot of flowers or herbs out of it to let grow. The menu encourages diners to make their choice based on its impact on the environment. We have developed a series of icons to communicate the place, health and carbon footprint of each dish on the menu. So next time you're wondering if you should order a bug burger or a hamburger? Know that your choice makes all the difference.
